Cheaters Guide to Making Black Forest Pudding!

Hello Friends...
Lazy days are back again...beginning of summer, warm nights, children's vacation...We just want to relax and enjoy ourselves. But then, in the army household, we have to be prepared for eventualities. There are times when late in the evening husbands come back from games and announce, "we have guests"... "course-mate coming over for dinner" or "previous CO has landed in the station and is coming over for dinner"... Now what does one do...Food is still OK....What about dessert?? Same old Ice-cream or Gulab-jamun?? We Fauji wives are so particular about setting, at least, a five-course meal for our guests! Here's a quick fix pudding recipe that can be shaped in a matter of minutes. I hope you will like it. I call it Cheater's Delight...

Ingredients:

1 loaf bread
1+1/2 bowl powdered sugar
4 tbsps cocoa powder
1/4 cup rum(optional). You can use cherry syrup from the tin minus the sugar-water mix used to dilute rum.
1/2 litre fresh cream
1 bowl cherries cut into halves
1/2 bowl chopped chocolate/chocolate chips
1/2 bowl chopped walnuts
1 tsp vanilla essence

Method:

Put the bread slices into a mixer and make fine crumbs out of them.

Now add cocoa powder and mix with the crumbs in such a way that the cocoa powder coats them properly.

Into the bread-cocoa mixture, add 1 bowl of powdered sugar and combine so that it is still crumbly. The sugar will start making it a little soggy.

In a bowl add 1 cup of water and mix 2 tbsps of granulated sugar to it. Stir till the sugar dissolves.

Add rum to it. (My favourite in this recipe!)

In a separate bowl, beat cream with half a bowl of powdered sugar and vanilla essence till light and fluffy, yet pouring.

In the serving bowl, spread half the bread crumb mixture. sprinkle cherries, walnuts and choco chips over it.

Spoon the yum..sorry rum syrup on it till well drenched.

Now pour half the cream and let it settle.

Again spread the bread mixture with fruits and nuts.

Another layer of rum syrup and cream.

Decorate with chocolate powder or shavings, walnuts and cherries.

Keep it in the refrigerator to chill. Your pudding is ready to serve!

The time it takes is nothing compared to its taste. And definitely the most essential ingredient...RUM does the rest! Believe me, it is easy, yummy and makes you delightfully fuzzy post a hard days work! After all...it's time to chill...Dinner is served!!
